New user menu layout
From Nikonians Wiki - FAQs, Photo Glossary, Good Photo Locations, Help
The whole user menu has been re-designed to be more user-friendly and better organized. It should be easier now for you to navigate through it thanks to the new tabbed layout, as shown above for illustration purposes.
The top of the screen contains your personal data such as your name and address. You can also upload or edit your photo, that will be visible by others.
There is a "Save" button under your personal data, that will save the data from all of the tabs. This means that you can change stuff in one tab, then navigate to the other without beeing afraid of loosing your entered data. When you’re done editing your data, just press the "Save" button and all your information will be stored in the database.
Here is a short description of all of the tabs in the new usermenu:
In this tab you may edit the information about your photographic gear, your photo interests and about you as a photographer. This should further help repliers to your messages to tailor their anwer to your level of expertise, gear and software when applicable.
Here you may edit your community settings including the change of your password, login preferences, reading preferences, forums background color and more.
First you can upgrade or renew your Nikonians membership. And you can of course delete your account. This is a brand new feature in the user menu. You can search for your Nikonians friends, find new friends and then ease communications with them and see their activities on the nikonians.org community.
To search for new friends, just enter his/her username into the search textbox and hit enter or click “Search” button. Then click on one of the usernames that appear in the box below the search textbox. A new window should pop-up. Here you can specify a message for the user that will be sent to him via e-mail with your request to become system-tied friends. When you send a request, the user is automatically added to the list of your friends with a status of “waiting for approval”. You actually become system-tied friends after the user accepts your request. After he does the status is changed to “approved” and now you can see his activities on the website.
Under the search box you there is a list of your registered system-tied friends. You can sort the list by username or by status. You see there their name and username, their last activity, the date since when you’ve been friends. And there are also options for you to write them email or message or remove them from the list.
Under the list of friends you will find a summary of 30 latest activities of all your friends, sorted in chronological order.
You can create a voucher here and give it to your friends afterwards. The voucher gives the new user that registers to nikonians.org a 5% discount on the membership. It also gives you a free month of membership. To create a voucher just click “Create new voucher” link. A textbox appears where you should enter the email address of the user you want to invite as a new member. Then click the “Generate voucher” button.
The newly generated voucher appears now in the table below. You can now either send the invitation along with the voucher code to the email you entered. Or you can print out the code on your printer and give it to the person. To remove the voucher code completely click the “Remove” link.
This tab contains these items: bookmarks, topic subscriptions and forums subscriptions. They work the same way as they did in the old menu.
Contains the messages you received from other users. The new Inbox shows the already “marked as read” messages at the end of messages list. In this way you can easily distinguish new messages from already “marked as read” messages. The other functionality is the same.
You can write comments here and assign them to specific dates. The workflow is the same as was before.
